Titans Drop Heartbreaker at Cal Poly, 46-51

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Sami Logan scored 14 points while Dani Craig pulled down a season-high nine rebounds in the Titans' heartbreaking 51-46 loss at Cal Poly on Saturday night.

Freshman Lauren Nubla tied her season-high, recording 11 points while Jade Vega chipped in eight points and five rebounds.

The Titans were 18-44 from the floor with six of those coming from behind the arc, while recording a season-low 33.3% from the line. Cal Poly managed 21 of their points off of the 23 Titan turnovers, the second highest number of turnovers all season.

Sophomore Portia Neale received her first start of the season in place of Michelle Berry, who missed her first game of the year tonight.

Vega kicked off the scoring for the Titans opening up the game with a three-pointer, leading Fullerton to an 11-point first quarter and leading the Mustangs.

The Titans held their lead throughout the first half of the second period until Cal Poly's leading scorer Hannah Gilbert made a layup to end the first half with the 26-24 lead over Fullerton.

The freshmen led the way in the first half, totaling 14 of the Titans 24 points and combining for nine rebounds. Craig matched her season-high after the first half in rebounds at six while contributing two points.

Logan started off the second half with back-to-back three's and eight points in the third quarter to lead the Titans, yet the Titans couldn't hold their lead throughout the entire third period. With just under three minutes left in the third period, the Mustangs regained their lead off a layup and free throw combination from Cal Poly's Gilbert.

At the end of the third period, the Titans trailed 39-41 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The Mustangs opened up the fourth quarter going on a 6-0 run, giving them an 8-point lead over the Titans with just under seven minutes left on the clock.

Yet the Titans were unable to score throughout the first five minutes of the final quarter with an 8-point deficit until Nubla managed two layups to close the gap to only four.

Fullerton was unable to come back and drop their first Big West road game in the 51-46 loss to Cal Poly at Mott Athletic Center on Saturday night.
