Third Place at Stake

Oct. 27, 2010

Fullerton, Calif. - Third place in the Big West Conference men's soccer standings is on the line Wednesday night when the Titans host UC Davis in Titan Stadium.

Both teams went 0-2 last week to remain deadlocked, well behind UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine, and now only one point ahead of fifth-place Cal Poly. Only the top four teams advance to the post-season tourney.

Fullerton swept the Aggies last year after an 0-1-1 effort in 2008. Overall this year the Aggies are 5-10.

The Titans also are home on Saturday night, hosting San Diego State of the Pac-10 in a non-conference match. The teams have not played since 2002.

Last week the Titans lost to UC Riverside, 3-2, on Wednesday, giving up a pair of goals 34 seconds apart to break a 1-1 tie. Nick Posthuma's second goal of the night and seventh of the season with about 10 minutes to play set up a frantic finish but the Titans couldn't get a bounce or a favorable call.

On Saturday they were down at the half, 5-0, and lost at UC Irvine, 7-2.
