Goleta, Calif. - Danny Barrera and Luis Silva scored goals about three minutes apart in the first half Saturday night and UC Santa Barbara went on to defeat Cal State Fullerton, 3-1, in the finals of the Big West Conference Post-Season Men's Soccer Tournament.
The Gauchos (13-4-3) earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament, whose final College Cup Games are at UCSB. Fullerton ended its season 7-12-2 after its second loss in three tries to UCSB.
Barrera found the net in the 19th minute and Silva scored n the 22nd. Jesse Escalante scored for the Titans in the 27th minute to make it a 2-1 match. UCSB scored the clincher in the 68th minute courtesy of Josue Madueno.
Trevor Whiddon returned to the net for Fullerton and made 12 saves. Sam Hayden needed to stop only three Fullerton shots.
