Final Stats

Fullerton, Calif. - Paul Cain's header in the eighth minute of overtime gave UC Davis a 2-1 men's soccer victory Saturday afternoon at Cal State Fullerton.

The Aggies improved to 7-5-2 on the season while the Titans fell to 5-8-1. Fullerton has lost three overtime games in a row -- all at home -- after winning one and tying another on the road.

The game-winning play started with a shot by Quincy Amarikwa from the left flank. The ball caromed to the right side where Mariano Arrua sent a hard cross toward the net and Cain directed it past Titan goalkeeper Brent Douglas from about 5 yards out.

Davis had taken a 1-0 lead with 7:25 to play in regulation when Dylan Curtis took a crisp pass from Nicholas Lind and scored from about 20 yards straight out. The Titans tied the match 16 seconds later when a yellow card was issued to the Aggies' Ahmad Hatifie for a hard foul and Fullerton's Amir Shafii drilled a free kick from 32 yards past goalkeeper Charles Warne. Shafii had earlier prevented Davis from scoring the first goal when he kicked away a shot by Curtis that had gotten past Douglas.

Each team managed only one shot in the first half.

Fullerton has only one match next week -- Saturday at UC Santa Barbara -- as it begins a string of four consecutive Big West Conference road matches.

UC Davis, which beat Fullerton, 4-0, at home on Sept. 15, is at UCSB on Wednesday and then hosts Cal State Northridge on Saturday.
