Fullerton, Calif. - Ryan Mathy cruised to his fifth shutout of the season Saturday night as UC Irvine dominated Cal State Fullerton, 4-0, in Big West Conference men's soccer action.
The win was the third in three conference matches for UCI, which is 6-3-2 overall, while the Titans fell to 0-2 in the Big West and 2-7-1 overall.
Mathy had to make only one routine save as the Anteaters outshot the Titans, 15-5. First-half goals by Anthony Hamilton, Craig Ettinger and Kit Vitagliano gave UCI an early cushion and Brad Evans concluded the scoring in the second half when he banged in a rebound of his own shot.
Matt Cowan got his first start in goal for the Titans after returning from a broken foot. He wasn't very lucky as the last three UCI goals all came off rebounds off his body. He made 8 saves.
Fullerton is on the road next week at Cal State Northridge on Tuesday afternoon and at UC Riverside on Friday afternoon. UCI hosts UCSB on Friday. ™™
