Westwood, Calif. - Shawn Singh's shot from the left side trickled off Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Trevor Whiddon and into the net in the 65th minute for the decisive goal in UCLA's 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over the Titans Thursday night at Drake Stadium.
The Bruins improved to 3-1 on the season while the Titans fell to 3-2 after a statistically even match. Fullerton took 12 shots and 6 were on goal while the Bruins had 13 shots with seven of them in scoring range. Fullerton had 20 fouls to 15 for UCLA. Both goalkeepers had 5 saves.
Celso Alvarez gave Fullerton an early lead when he banged home from close range a rebound off UCLA keeper Brian Rowe, who had just stopped a Matt Sanders shot. It was Alvarez' fourth goal of the young season.
UCLA tied the match in the 38th minute when Evan Raynr parlayed assists from David Estrada and Chandler Hoffman into his second goal of the year, getting a kind bounce off the right post.
Estrada and Kyle Nakazawa assisted on the game-winning goal.
Fullerton plays its home opener Sunday at 3 p.m. in Titan Stadium against Saint Mary's.
