Fullerton, Calif. - Josh Boemecke scored the only goal of the evening Friday as San Jose State defeated host Cal State Fullerton, 1-0, to complete Day One of the Cal State Fullerton men's soccer tournament.

Boemecke cashed in a corner kick for his fourth goal in as many games this season for the Spartans, 3-1, while the TItans were blanked for the second time in three games and fell to 0-1-2.

In the first game of the day, Washington and Cal State Northridge failed to score in 110 minutes.

Boemecke's score came in the 25th minute. Roberto Casteneda sent the corner to the near post where Nick Cukar touched it toward the far post and CSF goalkeeper Trevor Whiddon had no chance as Boemecke headed the ball into the top of the net.

Fullerton had two excellent chances to tie. Oscar Aguero hit the right post with a blast from about 25 yards with 25 minutes to play. And in the final minute, the ball was loose in the Spartans' goal mouth and the Titans got three shots but all three caromed off Spartan players.

Whiddon was credited with 2 saves while San Jose's Jonathan Lester needed only one for the shutout.

San Jose State plays Northridge Sunday at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Titans and Huskies.
