lineup for his first two seasons but was limited to only 6 matches,
all starts, in 2010 due to a knee injury... In 2009 he played in
all 19 matches, 14 as a starter... Had one goal, coming Oct. 10 in
a 3-2 double overtime win at UC Davis... In 2008 he played in 16
matches with 3 starts... Had 2 assists and one goal... His score
came in a 2-1 win at Bradley on Sept. 27... He has a winning
background and is a product of the same high school that produced
former Titan academic All-American and the 2006 Big West Conference
leading scorer in Eugene Brooks.
HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year varsity starter at Bel Air
High School in El Paso, Texas... Three-time first-team
all-district... Two-time City Most Valuable Player and Offensive
Player of the Year for Coach Sergio Delgado... Team won the
district and regional championships and advanced to the state
semifinals, finishing up 26-2... Mario had 12 goals and 16
assists... Made the honor roll.
CLUB: El Paso Patriots of the PDL, Mexicas FC and
the El Paso Indios where he was a teammate of Brooks, winning the
U.S. Adult Soccer Association National Cup in 2007.
PERSONAL: Born on June 15, 1990, in El Paso,
Texas... Parents are Mario and Trinidad Alvarez of El Paso... Has
an older brother (Marco Medina) and a younger sister (Brenda)...
Kinesiology major... Most memorable sports thrill was training with
Club America in Mexico City in the summer of his junior year...
