FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer returns to Titan Stadium Wednesday as it hosts Cal Baptist at 7:00 p.m. PT.
The Titans are coming off of a 2-1 win over San Francisco Sunday, improving to 7-0 on the season, tying the best start in the history of the program which was done in 1999. Following the win the Titans moved up to the No. 13 ranked team in the nation.
Christian Pinzon and Oscar Flores each scored in Sunday's contest to record their team-high fifth goal of the season, ranking tied for third in the Big West Conference. Pinzon ranks third in the conference in total points with 15 on five goals and five assists while Flores ranks fourth with 12 points on five goals and two assists.
The Titans offense has been firing on all cylinders to start the season, scoring an average of 2.14 goals per game, ranking second in the conference behind CSUN. The key to Fullerton's offense this year has been great passing as the team has racked up a total of 19 assists this season with an average of 2.71 assist per game, ranking tied for seventh in the nation.
While scoring at a high clip, the Titans have also had stingy defense, allowing just five goals in seven games. Goalkeeper Paul-Andre Guerin is tied for the most shutouts in the Big West Conference with three this season, giving him a total of 18 for his career which is just one shy of tying the program record.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Cal Baptist heads into Wednesday's contest with a record of 1-5-1 with its only win coming against Purdue - Fort Wayne. Tete Vacas leads the team in total points (8), goals (3) and assists (2) through the first seven games.
