FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton extended its undefeated start to the season Friday night in its 2-1 win over No. 18 Loyola Chicago. The Titans are now 3-0 to start the year for the first time since 2007.
The Titans appeared to put the game away early as Christian Pinzon scored his second goal of the season in the 13th minute of play on header to the back corner of the net on a perfect pass from Tyler Marquez.
Just five minutes later the Titans struck again, this time on a brilliant strike from freshman Sebastian Cruz on assists from Oscar Flores and Pinzon. Cruz now has one goal and one assist in just three collegiate games.
With his goal and assist in the win over Loyola, Pinzon leads the team with six points in just three games of action, averaging two points per game so far this season.
The Ramblers scored on a late goal by Justin Sukow in the 88th minute of play to make the crowd anxious but the Titans defense stiffened up to not allow anything the rest of the game.
The Titans return to the pitch Sunday night in another doubleheader with the women's soccer team as they take on Utah Valley at 7:00 p.m. PT. The women's soccer team faces Kansas State in the first game of the doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. PT.
