Seven Titans Earn All-Conference Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – The 2015 Big West South Division champions were represented by a group of seven Titans who earned their first career All-Conference honors en route to the program's first Big West regular season title, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Defender Ricardo Covarrubias highlighted the Titans, nabbing a spot on the All-Big West second team in his first campaign in a Fullerton uniform.

Midfielders Nicolo D'Amato and Robert Coronado were joined by goalkeeper David Rodriguez Elias and freshmen Brandon West, Carlos Troncoso and Ronaldo Pineda to represent the Titans by collecting honorable mention nods.
 

West, Troncoso and Pineda were also named to the All-Freshmen team to round out the Big West accolades. 



Anchoring the Titan defense that ranked first in the Big West with a 0.83 goals against average and fewest goals allowed with 16, Covarrubias captured his first All-Big West nod with his spot on the second-team.  The junior defender has played in 17 games in 2015, being instrumental to the defense that posted a record-breaking 11 shutouts. Through 10 conference matches only, the Titans allowed only 6 goals while logging a 0.58 goals against average and shutout opponents seven times. 

 
 

Speaking of defense, junior goalkeeper David Rodriguez Elias stepped up in the net for the Titans, posting a record-breaking season en route to collecting an honorable mention nod, the first of his career.  After appearing in seven games last season in the net for the Titans, Elias has played every minute of 2015, leading the entire nation in goalie minutes played with 1744:32. The Huntington Beach native currently ranks first in the Big West in fewest goals allowed (16), goals against average (0.83) and shutouts (11); while ranking in the top 50 nationally in goals against average (37th) and shutout percentage (8th). The junior currently sits in second in the record books in season goals against average, right behind Nart Arislanouk who posted a 0.82 goals against average in 1982.

Midfielder Nicolo D'Amato is one of only five Titans who have played in every game thus far this season, also earning him a spot on the honorable mention squad. D'Amato was instrumental in both the Titan offense and defense, logging one goal and one assist in 2015. D'Amato also ranks fourth on the Titans stat sheet in shots with 26, eight of them being on target.



Robert Coronado is another Titan who has found himself in every game in 2015 for the Titans, also landing him an honorable mention nod. The sophomore has been a big contributor to the Titan offense, logging a team-high four assists while recording a goal of his own. Coronado posted his only goal in the second match of the season off a penalty kick against Wright State. 

 


A trio of freshmen round out the honors for the Titans, all earning a spot on the honorable mention squad and the All-Freshman team.

West was an instant standout in the Titan offense this season, playing in all 19 matches thus far. The Sweden native leads the Titans in game-winning goals with three, also while showing he can set up shots by racking up four assists in 2015 as well.  The forward has landed nine shots on target, good for second on the team.

 



 

Pineda has made an immediate impact in the midfield in his first season on the pitch, leading the Titan offense in shots and scoring two goals in 2015. The freshman has landed eight of his 35 shots on target this season and ranks ninth in the Big West in shots per game (2.06).
 





Troncoso rounds out the accolades for the Titans, appearing in 18 games in his freshman campaign so far. The Anaheim native played a huge part in the Fullerton back line, assisting in one of the best defensive campaigns in the last decade. Troncoso also recorded one goal while taking 10 shots so far this season.

 

 

UC Santa Barbara's Nick DePuy captured Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second year straight, while Cal Poly's Chase Minter and Wade Hamilton also captured back-to-back honors for Midfielder of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively. The Gauchos' coach Tim Vom Steeg was also honored as the 2015 Coach of the Year while CSUN's Trevor Morley nabbed Defensive Player of the Year honors.

The Titans kick off Big West Conference Tournament play next Wednesday at Titan Stadium in the semi finals, playing the winner of the Cal Poly/UC Irvine game.
