Fullerton, Calif. - Two of the best male high
school golfers in California have signed grants in aid to continue
their careers at Cal State Fullerton.
Ryan Tetrault of Villa Park High School and Mark Jensma of Aliso
Niguel High will be part of the reinstated CSF program's third
season in 2011-12.
Tetrault has led his Villa Park team to a pair of CIF team
championships. He was the Century League's most valuable player as
a junior in 2010 when he won the Century League Championship with a
score of five under par at Los Serranos Country Club. As a
sophomore and junior he was the VPHS MVP. He set the Villa Park
school and CIF Southern Section record with a round of 6-under 30
over nine holes at Green River Golf Club as a sophomore and
bettered his mark the next year with a 7-under 29. As a freshman he
was Century League runnerup, losing a playoff on the third hole.
Twice he has won All-Orange County honors.
Tetrault has had equal success on the amateur circuit. He played
on the SCPGA Junior Golf Tour until late 2007. In 2008 he qualified
for the AJGA Las Vegas Junior Tour with a score of 2-under 70
before finishing fourth in the tournament. That earned him exempt
status on the AJGA Tour and he later qualified for the SCPGA Toyota
Cup Series. On Dec. 7 he captured the Toyota Championship at
Trilogy Golf Club with a six-under-par score over 36 holes, which
is the current scoring record for the event.
In 2009, Tetrault qualified with a score of 68 to advance through
the first stage of the Farmers Insurance Open hosted by the PGA
Tour at Torrey Pines Golf Course. He later shot a career best round
of 65 at Goose Creek in the Los Angeles Open Qualifier.
In the summer of 2009, Ryan finished third in the AJGA Flossmoor
Invitational with a 3-round score of 4-under par. He finished his
summer with a ninth-place fnish at AJGA's Club Corp Invitational at
Mission Hills Country Club, where he capped off his tourney with a
final round of 5-under 67.
UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Illinois and Cal actively
recruited Tetrault after he reached No. 12 on the National Junior
Golf Rankings. His home course is Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine and
his swing instructor is Dave Hutchens.
Jensma is a three-time most valuable player at Aliso Niguel High
School. He has earned all-league honors three times and All-Orange
County recognition twice. He has reached the CIF finals twice,
sharing the title in 2010 with a seven-under-par 65 to qualify for
the state finals, where he finished in a tie for 21st.
On the amateur circuit he has won the SCPGA Toyota Tour Cup at La
Purisima and has five other top-ten Toyota finishes. He placed
fourth at the 2010 AJGA Stockton Sports Commission Junior Open. He
finished sixth at the 2010 L.A. City Junior Championship with a
second-round score of nine-under par 63. He also has qualified for
the SCPGA California State Open professional tournament.
Pepperdine, UC Irvine and Cal Poly SLO along with Fullerton
offered him scholarships. He also was recruited by San Diego State,
Fresno State, Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara.
