Titan Alive in Final 16

Titan Alive in Final 16

Feb. 23, 2010

San Francisco, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton redshirt junior David Lyons has advanced to the final field of 16 at the City of San Francisco Municipal Golf Tournament, the oldest of its kind in the nation.

Lyons, seeded 48th, won a pair of match-play decisions last weekend in difficult weather, 1 up over No. 17-seed Justin Marchiando, and 2 up over No. 16 seed Ryan Wilson.

Lyons will return to San Francisco's Harding Park course for a third weekend and face No. 33-seeded Jonathan Garrick, who beat No. 32-seeded Michael Vera, 2 and 1, and then upset No. 1-seeded Carlos Briones, 3 and 1.

Lyons is a product of Huntington Beach who transferred this year from San Diego State to help with the revival of the Titans' men's golf program. But an administrative glitch in his transcripts made him ineligible for this season. The Fullerton team will compete Monday and Tuesday at the Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside in Beaumont.
