FULLERTON, Calif. – Coming off of Derek Castillo's individual championship, and back-to-back team win at the Sacramento State Invitational, the Titans men's golf team has a ton of steam heading into the Grand Canyon University Invitational on Friday through Saturday, March 13-14.

With regard to the dual wins at the Sacramento State Invitational, head coach Jason Drotter had this to say:  "I'm very proud of the team's performance at the event last week.  It's hard enough to win, it's even harder to defend.  We were able to do both, and in a convincing fashion.

"I'm equally as proud of Derek.  After a couple of bad breaks early in the event he was able to manage his emotions very well.  I felt that Derek and Jack (Dyer) were among the best players in the field.  Derek was a bit sharper.

"GCU is our next event, and it will be very challenging.  The field is strong, and we are playing on an unfamiliar course.  However, we are peaking at the right time of the year, and hope to continue our good play this week."

The GCU Invitational is a two-day, 54-hole tournament.  It will be held on the par 71, 7,200-yard GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.  36 continuous holes will be played on Friday, with a final 18 holes played on Saturday.  Teams and individuals will be competing for championships.

Participating schools will include host Grand Canyon University, Cal State Fullerton, UTEP, Gonzaga, Eastern Michigan, South Dakota, Valparaiso, UC Irvine, Wichita State, North Dakota State, UC Riverside, Pacific, Hawaii, Columbia, Samford, Bowling Green and Nebraska-Omaha.

The five-man Titan team will consist of Derek Castillo, Jack Dyer, Dalton Daniel, Matt Rafter, and Garrett Boe.  Dyer was a tri-medalist at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, and has had four top-ten finishes in '19-'20.  Castillo won the OC Collegiate Classic, the Sacramento State Invitational, and has also had two top-ten finishes this season.

Trevor McNary and Jess Scheller will compete in the tournament as individuals.
