ELK GROVE, Calif. – 36 wind-blown holes of the 54-hole Sacramento State Invitational are now in the books on Monday evening. The Titans are leading the tournament by a commanding 13 strokes after posting scores of 297 and 292 to go back to their hotel with a two-round total score of 13-over par, 589. Fullerton has three golfers on the top-ten of the leaderboard.
Jack Dyer leads the tournament by two strokes, and Derek Castillo is just three shots behind Dyer, tied for third place. Dyer opened with a 2-over par 74, then closed his second round with a 2-under par 70 to finish Even on the day. Castillo shot 73-74 to finish at 3-over par.
With the exception of Matt Rafter, all of the Titans posted better second rounds. Dalton Daniel is tied for eighth place after shooting 5-over par. Matt Rafter came in at 7-over par, and teammate Garrett Boe shot a score of 12-over par for the Titans. The best 4 of 5 team individual scores are used to compute the overall team score by round.
Trevor McNary and Jess Scheller, playing as individuals, logged scores of 14-over par and 16-over par respectively.
Wind was a factor throughout the day, which inflated some scores, as no one shot under par. Sustained winds were reported at 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. The forecast is that the winds will subside for Tuesday's round.
All 11 teams and 65 golfers will return for a final 18 holes on Tuesday. The tournament is being played at the par 72, 6,514-yard Valley Hi Country Club. The Titans are the defending tournament champions.
