COTO DE CAZA, Calif. – The inaugural Orange County Collegiate Classic turned out to be a quite a successful event for head coach Jason Drotter and the Titans men's golf team: Derek Castillo won the event by seven strokes, teammate Jack Dyer finished in second place, and the Cal State Fullerton team finished tied with the University of San Francisco for the tournament championship.
Despite the winds that played havoc with other golfers, Castillo was masterful throughout his three rounds, finishing with an 8-under par, 208 on the tight Coto de Caza South course. Castillo cashed in 17 birdies over his three championship rounds.
Jack Dyer, who was a tri-medalist earlier in the fall at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, shot a three-round 215 to finish at one-under par. Castillo and Dyer were the only golfers in the field to finish with scores below par.
Matt Rafter, Garrett Boe and Trevor McNary shot lights-out third rounds of 69, 74 and 70 on Tuesday to propel the Titans to the tournament co-championship. The Titans shot a combined five-under par in Tuesday's third round. No other team shot in negative numbers during the final round.
Round two had to be completed on Tuesday morning after play was suspended due to darkness on Monday. 92 golfers and 17 collegiate teams competed in the OC Collegiate Classic.

Next up for the Titans is the three-day John Burns Intercollegiate taking place from Thursday to Saturday, February 20-22. The tournament will be played on the Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Hawai'i.
