FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Cal State Fullerton men's golf finished the Rams Masters Invitational Tuesday in 10th place after shooting a 28-over par 868 to wrap up its first tournament of the 2018-19 season.
The Titans moved up from 16th place following round one all the way up to a 10th place finishing after greatly improving their score in the final two rounds. Fullerton shot a 297 in round one before shooting a 280 and 291 in rounds two and three.
Colorado State took first place at its own tournament with a score of 4-under par 836. The second place team, Illinois State, shot a 10-over par 850. Dan Starzinski of Wyoming took first place individually with a 11-under par 199.
Sophomore Dalton Daniel had his best tournament of his collegiate career, placing tied for 11th after shooting a 2-over par 212. Daniel's best finish in 2017 was a tie for 14th place. His freshman year, Daniel's average score per round was a 75.56, in the first tournament of the season he did not shoot over a 74 in a single round (74-68-70).
Matt Wilson finished second on the team and in 37th place after shooting a 7-over par 217 (74-69-74). Derek Castillo finished tied for 47th with a score of 10-over par 220 (75-72-73). Castillo jumped up a few spots from tied for 52nd following round two after shooting a 73 in round three.
Jack Dyer placed tied for 54th place in his first tournament as a Titan, shooting a 11-over par 221 (74-73-74). Michael Sharkey finished tied for 73rd place with a score of 16-over par 226 (79-71-76).
Fullerton has just one week off before returning to Colorado for the Mark Simpson Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado beginning Monday.
