LAS VEGAS – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team placed third at the Jackrabbit Invitational on Saturday at Siena Golf Club.
Nevada led the 12-team contingent shooting 41-under-par 823, followed by UNLV (830, -34), the Titans (837, -27), Long Beach State (853, -11), South Dakota (853, -11), Weber State (856, -8), Utah State (857, -7), Southern Utah (863, -1), South Dakota State (869, +5), Hawai'i (869, +5), North Dakota State (877, +13), and Creighton (907, +43).
For the fourth straight tournament, sophomore Jack Ireland led the way as one of three Titans to place in the top 20.
Ireland shot 3-under par 69 in the third and final round on Saturday to bring his total three-round score to 12-under-par 204, just one shot behind medalist Justin Kim (203, -13) of UNLV.
Sophomore Matt Wilson shot 1-under-par 71 in the final round to finish tied for eighth on the leaderboard with a three-round score of 8-under-par 208.
Freshman Michael Sharkey shot 2-under-par 70 in the third round – his best round of the Invite - as his final three-round score (214, -2) tied for 18th.
Junior Mark Cobey moved up 16 spots on the leaderboard as he also shot his best round of the tournament at 3-under-par 69 to also finish tied for 18th (214, -2).
Freshman Ty Stites placed 31st with a final three-round score of 1-over-par 217.
The Titans have almost a month off before returning to action on Thursday, April 13 at the El Macero Classic at El Macero Country Club.
