PALM DESERT, Calif. --- Cal State Fullerton bounced back after a rocky second round and vaulted into a top-10 spot with a solid final round Sunday at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Wyoming at the Classic Club Golf Course in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Titans carded a collective 7-over 295, improving on their second-round score by six strokes to finish the 54-hole event tied for 10th place with a 25-over 889. Fullerton tied with Nebraska in the 22-team field. No. 10 Oregon completed its wire-to-wire showing as the Ducks finished off with a 3-under 285 on Sunday and wrapped the tournament at 26-under to secure the team title. No. 24 Colorado finished second at 17-under while No. 5 Texas Tech (14-under) and No. 4 Kansas and TCU (2-under) rounded out the top five in the team standings.
Sophomore Jack Ireland logged his second straight top-20 finish as he carded a 1-under 71 on Sunday to wrap the tournament at 1-under 215 and tied for 14th place overall. He tied for the best scoring average on par-4s at the tournament, averaging a 3.93 stroke average and finishing at 2-under for the tournament on those holes. Oregon claimed co-medalist honors as Wyndham Clark and Norman Xiong, the No. 1 and No. 7 golfers in the nation respectively according to GolfStat, each recorded an 11-under 205 at the event.
Mark Cobey posted the Titans second best score of the tournament as he finished at 9-over following a 3-over 75 on Sunday. Cobey carded a 225 and tied for 58th place overall.
Ty Stites finished tied for 72nd with an 11-over 227 and Matt Wilson rounded out the Titans team scoring with a 14-over 230 after recording his best round of the tournament on Sunday; an even-par 72.
Martin Manalo wrapped up his tournament with an 18-over 234.
Fullerton will return to the links on Feb. 27 when the Titans head to the 21st Del Walker Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif.
