CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. --- Cal State Fullerton opened the spring portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a seventh-place finish at the seventh annual Folino Invitational Tuesday at Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms in City of Industry, Calif.

The Titans had their best round of the tournament on Tuesday, posting a 12-over 300 in the third and final round. Fullerton was one of just two teams that completed round two on Monday along with Boise State. The rest of the field concluded second-round action Tuesday morning after play was suspended Monday due to darkness.

The Titans wrapped their flagship event with a 50-over 914, three strokes back of sixth-place UC Riverside. Long Beach State captured the team title with an 8-over 872 and remains the only program to capture multiple Folino titles. The 49ers took home back-to-back team crowns in 2012-13.

UC Santa Barbara finished in second, two strokes back of the 49ers. The Gauchos led the tournament after the first round but a 297 in the second round allowed the 49ers to take the lead and Long Beach State never relinquished it.

UC Irvine finished third with a 23-over 886 while CSUN (892) and Boise State (893) rounded out the top five.

On the individual side, Joe Fryer took home medalist honors with a 7-under 209. He shot a 1-under 71 in the final round and took the title by five strokes over runner-up Zach Smith of UC Santa Barbara. They were the only golfers to finish the tournament with a score under par as Brian Humphreys of Boise State finished third at 1-over.

As for the Titans, the hosts had four golfers finish in the top-20, led by sophomore Jack Ireland's 4-over 220. Ireland shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish tied for seventh place overall, the best finish of his career. Previously, Ireland tied for 14th at the Itani Homes Collegiate in 2015, his first career tournament.

Competing as an individual, Martin Manalo posted a 5-over 221 to finish tied for 10th place. He posted his best round of the tournament Tuesday with a 1-over 73 in the third round. Mark Cobey and Michael Sharkey each finished tied for 19th with an 8-over 224. Cobey's mark counted toward the Titans' overall team score while Sharkey competed as an individual.

Overall, the Titans had 11 golfers compete at the Folino Invitational. Matt Murphy and Dario Hamada each tied for 30th in the 60-player field with a 12-over 228. Matt Wilson and Ty Stites tied for 42nd at 19-over and C.J. Coleman was one stroke back of them at 20-over. Davis Holman (+30) and Michael Alvarez (+42) rounded out the scoring for Fullerton.

The Titans will head back out on the links on Feb. 17 when they take part in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club Golf Course in Palm Desert, Calif.
