SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team failed to capitalize on a solid first-round performance and dropped into a tie for sixth on the leaderboard following two rounds of play at the OGIO UCSB Intercollegiate.

Following a first-round effort of 6-over-par 294, the Titans were fifth in the standings, and within striking distance of Cal Poly (287, -1) at the top of the leaderboard, but that changed after the second round.

The Titans shot 299 (+11) in the second round, dropping into a tie for sixth in the standings, while the Mustangs extended their lead, firing a 284 in the second round to conclude the day with a two-round score of 5-under-par 571.

Cal State Fullerton finished the day with a two-round score of 17-over-par 593.

Following Cal Poly in the standings includes Grand Canyon (578, +2), UC Santa Barbara (583, +7), Long Beach State (587, +11), Weber State (592, +16), CSUN (593, +17), Cal State Fullerton (593, +17), Incarnate World (602, +26) and CSU Bakersfield (614, +38).

Redshirt freshman Davis Holman led Fullerton firing at par 72 in the first round and 1-over-par 73 in the second round to finish the day tied for 11th in the standings at 145 (+1).

Sophomore Mark Cobey is tied for 15th in the standings with a two-round score of 2-over-par 146 after shooting a 74 (+2) in the first round and 72 (E) in the second round.

Freshman Matt Wilson dropped from 16th to 26th in the standings between the first and second rounds after firing a first round score of 1-over-par 73 and following that with a second-round mark of 77 (+5), to finish the day with a score of 6-over-par 150.

Freshman Jack Ireland is tied for 35th on the leaderboard with a two-round score of 8-over-par 152 after shooting a 75 (+3) in the first round followed by a 77 (+5) in the second round.

Junior Matt Murphy rounds out the Titans competing as a team, currently in 55th place with a two-round total of 14-over-par 158.

Competing as an individual, Nico Mendoza is tied for 26th on the leaderboard. He shot a 76 (+4) in the first round and fired a 74 (+2) in the second round to conclude the day at 6-over-par 150.

Cal State Fullerton resumes play on Tuesday morning for the third and final round at the OGIO USCB Intercollegiate.
