CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – Samford led the way at the sixth-annual Folino Invitational Presented By Microsemi Corporation as the Bulldogs shot a two-round total of 2-over-par 578 (284-294) on Monday at Industry Hills Golf Club.
Samford was followed by UC Riverside (590, +14), Long Beach State (595, +19) and UC Santa Barbara (610, +34). The Titans were in fourth place after shooting a two-round total of 603, but suffered a disqualification at the end of the day with two incorrect score cards from the first round.
Individually, Long Beach State's Daniel Chian leads the field carding a 6-under-par 138 (68, 70) on the day.
Fullerton was led by junior Matt Murphy, who shot 2-over-par 146 (71, 75) on the day, but his score did not count toward the team total as he competed as an individual. The Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native is currently tied for seventh in the standings.
Murphy was followed by freshman Jack Ireland who recorded a score of 4-over-par 148 (72, 76) and is tied for ninth on the leaderboard.
Martin Manalo, competing as an individual, carded a score of 6-over-par 160 (74, 76) as his total ties for 14th in the standings.
In 20th-place and also competing as an individual, senior Mark Jensma shot a first-round score 72 (E), followed by a second round score of 80 (+8) to finish the day at 8-over-par 152.
Freshman Matt Wilson started the day shooting a 79 (+7) in the first round, but was able to move up in the standings to 26th place with a second round score of 2-over-par 74 to finish the day at 153 (+9).
Michael Alvarez's score of 155 (+11) has the sophomore tied for 30th place. Marcus Mercado-Kiel's score of 12-over-par 156 (76, 80) has the senior in 32nd place.
Redshirt freshman Davis Holeman, in his first competition for the Titans, finished the day with a score of 23-over-par 167 (85, 82).
The tournament concludes with the third round scheduled for an 8 a.m. start.
