Titans Climb into First After Day Two of Desert Shootout

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished its second day of competition in first place in the Desert Shootout at the Palm Valley Country Club in Goodyear, Ariz., on Friday.

While shooting a 7-under-par 281 first round, the Titans moved up two slots in the team standings after chalking up a second round 14-under-par 274 to conclude the day with a total score of (-21, 555). Heading into the final 18 holes, Fullerton is currently four strokes in the lead.

After two rounds, the Titans are followed by Idaho and UMKC with an overall score of 559 (-17), BYU (-16, 560), and Grand Canyon (-13, 563) to round out the top-five.

With a total score of 69 (-3) through the first round, Cal State Fullerton's senior Mark Anguiano followed up with a second round 6-under-par 66 to conclude day two in third place with a mark of (-9, 135). Anguiano trails Grand Canyon's Mark Geddes (-13, 131) and UMKC's Nathan Hughes (-12, 132).

Fellow senior Corey Gard followed yesterday's first round score of 72 (E), with a second round 67 (-5) to produce an overall score of (-5, 139), good for ninth place. Junior Ryan Tetrault chipped in a second round even-par 72 after a first round 69 (-3) to finish in 19th place posting a combined score of 3-under-par 141.

Freshman Kyle De Silva matched his first round score of 1-under-par 71 in the second round, capping his day two total score at 2-under-par 142 to finish in 24th place.

Senior Josh Park showed the most improvement after the first day of play shooting a second round of 70 (-2), 11-strokes better than his first round mark of 81 (+9). Park finished in 69th place totaling two rounds of play with a 7-over-par 151.

Fellow senior Scott Rubzin continued competition as an individual, firing a second round 75 (+3) after a first round 72 (E), rounding out the Titans with an overall score of 3-over-par 147, good for 52nd place.

Fullerton will compete in the final 18 holes of the Desert Shootout tomorrow at the Palm Valley Country Club, a par 72, at 8 a.m.
