Anguiano Named Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month

FULLERTON, Calif.-- Senior Mark Anguiano led Cal State Fullerton men's golf team to the Folino Invitational championship with a tournament record low score, and garnered Big West Men's Golfer of the Month honors for February, the league office announced on Thursday.

Anguiano fired the lowest-ever individual tournament score when he marked a 12-under-par 204. Shooting rounds of 66-68-70, Anguiano shattered the lowest-ever individual tournament score of 212 (-1), previously held by Geoff Gonzalez of Cal Poly in the 2011 competition.

Pioneered by Anguiano's play, the tournament victory gave Cal State Fullerton its third overall event championship of the season and first ever crown while competing in the three-year history of the event. The overall score of 863 (-1) is also the best team score on record at the Folino, surpassing Cal Poly's 867 (+3) by four-strokes during the 2011 event.

The Whittier, Calif. native also competed in two other tournaments.  He tied for 23rd among 82 competitors at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz., shooting a final round 70 (-2) en route to an 8-over-par 221. In addition, he fired an 11-over-par 227 (74-78-75) at the Jones Invitational in Somis, Calif., to finish 26th overall in a field of 66 players.  The Titans placed an overall fifth at the tournament with an overall score of 906 (+42). Anguiano has now shot 16 rounds of par or better in the 2013-14 season.

The Titans will be back in action on Mar. 3-4 as they compete in the Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif., at the Long Beach Country Club.
