South Florida Forward Chin Transfers to CSF

June 25, 2008

Fullerton, Calif. -

Orane Chin, a 6-foot-7 freshman wing player at South Florida in 2007-08, has signed financial aid documents and will transfer to Cal State Fullerton for the Fall semester. He will have to sit out the 2008-09 season but then will have three years of eligibility remaining.

"We think he can be an outstanding player for us in the Big West Conference," said Titans' Coach Bob Burton. "He's pretty athletic and a pretty good shooter. We're real excited to get him. His numbers weren't overwhelming but if you can start in the Big East as a freshman, that's an indication he can be a pretty good player for us."

The Bulls were 12-19 after a 10-4 start for first-year Coach Stan Heath. Chin played mostly at power forward and averaged 3.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 30 games, 14 as a starter. He averaged 18 minutes per game.

Chin was an all-state selection in 2006-07 for Miramar High School in Tampa. He averaged 25 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 assists to help his squad to a 22-7 record. He was the team's most valuble player and participated in the Dade-Broward County All-Star Game and made the all-tournament team at the 9th Annual Senior Showcase in Orlando.

Chin played his sophomore and junior seasons at Dr. Krop High School in Miami, earning second-team all-county honors each season. As a junior he averaged 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds for a 28-4 squad and as a sophomore averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds.

Chin played travel ball with the Broward Bobcats and the Miami Tropics.

The Titans have had good success with Div. I transfers. Last year's 24-9 team featured six players who had previously played at other Div. I schools.
