Bunch Honored at 2009 Visions and Visionaries Gala

May 20, 2009

FULLERTON, CA - Former Titan basketball star Greg Bunch was a receiver and a giver at the 2009 Visions and Visionaries Gala staged by the University on May 2.

Bunch was honored as a distinguished alumnus along with four other graduates -- Margaret M. McCarthy, Eric L. Openshaw, Alan J. Schafer and Joan T. Waltman -- and an honorary alumnus in former Fullerton mayor and state legislator Dick Ackerman. The honor is the highest the institution can bestow upon an alumnus.

In his acceptance speech, Bunch pointed out the importance of giving back to one's alma mater and then proceeded to pledge \$10,000 to the athletics scholarship fund. He summoned Coach Bob Burton from the audience and presented him a check for half of that amount on the spot.

Bunch was a four-year letterman for the Titans during the 1974-75 through 1977-78 seasons. In his sophomore year the Titans shared the Pacific Coast Athletic Association championship and he was selected the PCAA Player of the Year. He gained more notoriety as a senior when he led a third-place team to the PCAA Tournament championship and then a Cinderella run into the NCAA Tournament that took Cal State Fullerton within one basket of the Final Four. He played briefly with the New York Knicks of the NBA.

Bunch ranks second in Titan career rebounding and sixth in career scoring. He has enjoyed a successful career in the cable television industry.
