Titans Sign Pair of Men's Basketball Players

April 16, 2009

Fullerton, Calif. - Riverside City College guard Robbie Robinson and East Bakersfield High School forward D. J. Shelton have signed national letters of intent to continue their basketball careers at Cal State Fullerton in 2009-10.

Both Robinson (6-foot-5) and Shelton (6-foot-9) are expected to compete for immediate playing time with the Titans, who lost only two seniors from last year's 15-17 squad. Robinson will have two seasons of eligibility while Shelton will be a true freshman.

"Robinson can knock down the open shot," said CSF Assistant Coach Julius Hicks. "He's a big-time shooter and very athletic. We expect him to contribute immediately at a wing position."

Robinson led the Tigers in scoring, averaging 16.4 points and 7.0 rebounds for Riverside's state champions last season. He earned first-team all-state, all-state tournament and first-team All-Orange Empire Conference honors.

Shelton is another member of the highly talented Shelton family of athletes. His uncle, Lonnie, played at Oregon State and for 10 years in the NBA. His cousin Titus just completed a standout four-year career at Cal Poly. His cousin LJ played for the Cleveland Browns of the NFL, cousin Marlon played at Washington and cousin Timothy will be a junior forward at San Diego State.

"D. J. is a very versatile forward," said Hicks. "He is highly skilled and we expect him to play a lot as a freshman."

Shelton averaged 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds for East High last season.
