Akognon to Play in NABC Event in Detroit

Detroit, Mich. - Cal State Fullerton senior guard Josh Akognon will play in the 2009 Hershey's College All-Star Basketball Game at Ford Field in Detroit on Apr. 3 as part of the week-long events leading to this year's Final Four of men's basketball.

Akognon, a first-team All-NABC District 9 selection, will fly to Michigan on Apr. 1 for the game, which matches two teams of senior collegians designated the Hershey's and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup squads. The game tips off at 4:35 p.m. EDT and comes after each of the Final Four teams have a one-hour practice session on the floor situated in the middle of the domed stadium which recently hosted a Super Bowl. Admission is free and the game will be televised nationally by CBS.

Akognon (Petaluma, Calif.) was the player of the year in the Big West Conference in 2008-09 and began this week No. 7 in the nation in scoring with a 23.9 point per game average. He ranked No. 2 in the nation by making 4.3 3-point field goals per game and was No. 7 in free-throw percentage at .892.
