Lassiter, Akognon, Streeter Take Team Honors

March 26, 2009

Fullerton, Calif. - Senior Marcio Lassiter won two awards, freshman Jacques Streeter was voted most improved and senior Josh Akognon was the obvious winner as most valuable player as Cal State Fullerton revealed its 2008-09 men's basketball team honors at a post-season team party Thursday at Coach Bob Burton's home.

Lassiter received the Lyle Parks, Jr., Hustle Award from the Titan Athletics Club and his teammates voted him the Andrew Awad Toughness Award for inspiration, named in honor of the late former Titan player. Streeter made the Big West Conference all-freshman team after compiling all-time CSF freshmen top ten statistics in six categories -- points, scoring average, assists, rebounds, rebounding average and 3-point field goals made per game.

Akognon is off to NBA tryout camps the next few weeks. He currently is No. 7 in the nation in scoring with his 23.9 point average, No. 2 with 4.3 3-point field goals made per game and No. 7 in free-throw percentage at .892. He set seven Cal State Fullerton records and broke into the Big West Top Ten in 13 categories in his two-year career. His most prominent record is CSF single-season points with 764 this year. He was the Player of the Year in the Big West and made the NABC All-District 9 first unit.

Akognon and Lassiter were the only seniors on the Titans' squad. They will graduate this year along with redshirt junior Adam Thomas, giving the Titan men's basketball program 10 graduates in the past two seasons.
