Robinson Tabbed Best Defender in BWC

March 11, 2008

Irvine, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton senior swing man Frank Robinson (Los Angeles, CA / Sylmar HS) today was selected the Defensive Player of the Year in the Big West Conference by a vote of the league's nine head men's basketball coaches.

Robinson yesterday was named to the All-Big West second team. As a junior he received honorable mention and as a sophomore he received the Best Sixth Man Award.

Other awards announced today were Deon Tresvant of Cal State Northridge as the Best Sixth Man while Chris Devine of UC Santa Barbara and Christian Soto of UC Riverside shared the Best Hustle award.

Robinson, 6-foot-4, is one of the top all-around threats in the Big West. The transfer from East Carolina averaged a career-best 16.1 points this season, but it was his prowess on the glass and in the passing lanes that got him this award. Robinson averaged a remarkable 6.9 rebounds a game and upped his work on the backboard to 7.1 per outing in conference play. He also picked up 36 steals and led the club with 14 blocked shots. Over the course of the season, Robinson was his club's leading rebounder on eight different occasions and picked up the most steals six times.

Robinson enters the Big West Tournament fourth in scoring and rebounding and he was in the Top Ten in 3-point field goals until a late-season shooting slump.
