Vershan Cottrell's statistics belie his value to the Titans' program... The transfer from Ohlone College provides a consistent effort at the off guard spot and when he's in the game, good things usually seem to happen to the Titans... A tough competitor who doesn't back down from any challenge.

CSF IN 2004-05: Appeared in 25 of the 32 games... Three games stand out in his season: Jan. 22 at Idaho when he tallied a season-high 6 points and made two of three 3-point field goals, Feb. 19 vs. Utah State when he made consecutive second-half baskets in less than a minute to help the Titans to a victory and Mar. 22 at Georgetown when he posted "half a triple-double" with 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the NIT second-round game against the Hoyas while matching his season high with 23 minutes... Also had 5 points in only 6 minutes vs. Denver on Dec. 23... He had more than twice as many assists as turnovers and averaged about one steal every 16 minutes.

OHLONE COLLEGE: Honorable mention All-Coast Conference North selection in 2003-04 for the Ohlone College Renegades, who won back-to-back conference championships for Coach John Peterson... Vershan averaged 9.8 points as team set school records with 24-3 mark and No. 4 state ranking... They went 9-1 in conference play... As a freshman he averaged 10 points and shot 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from 3-point range... Team went 23-9 overall and won league title with 8-2 mark... Had a high game of 23 points as a sophomore.

RENTON HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year varsity letterman at the south Seattle campus... Led the state in scoring as a senior at 29.8 points per game to go with 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals... Most Valuable Player of his division... Second-team all-league as a junior and honorable mention as a sophomore... Also played two years of baseball as a pitcher and outfielder.

PERSONAL: Born on Mar. 24, 1984, in Seattle, Washington... Parents are Robert Cottrell of Fremont and Sharon Cottrell of Seattle... Has a brother, Vernell (23)... Communications major... Hopes to be employed in sports broadcasting... Credits Rick Comer for having most influence on his career: "He always let me know that no matter how well you perform, never settle... you can always do better... He also put time aside to coach me besides high school as well as being a great friend."
