Anthony Santos was named associate head coach prior to the 2022-23 campaign, after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach. In August of 2017 he was promoted to assistant after having spent the previous six seasons on staff committed to helping the Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball program succeed. The 2022-23 campaign marked his 11th season overall with the program.
Santos helped guide the team to its second consecutive Big West Tournament Championship Game appearance in 2022-23, following a six game winning streak to end the regular season and tournament wins over Hawai'i and UC Irvine. The title game appearnace was the Titans' fourth in the last five Big West Tournaments. The team went 20-13 overall and 12-6 in Big West action. Santos helped Latrell Wrightsell Jr. earn First-Team All-Big West accolades, Max Jones Honorable Mention honors and Tory San Antonio be named The Big West Defensive Player of the Year.
In 2021-22, Santos helped lead the Titans to a 21-11 record on their way to winning the Big West Tournament Championship to secure a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history. Santos along with Head Coach Dedrique Taylor have taken the Titans to two NCAA Tournament's, something no other coaching staff has accomplished at Cal State Fullerton.
Santos and the 2019-20 Titans had their season cut short just prior to the start of the Big West Tournament due to COVID-19. He helped Jackson Rowe and Brandon Kamga claim Second-Team All-Big West honors while Kamga was also named Big West Newcomer of the Year.
2019-20 Graduating seniors Rowe (France), Davon Clare (Portugal) and Austen Awosika (Austria) each signed professional contracts to play in their respective country's top leagues.
In 2018-19, the Titans made it to the Big West Tournament Final for the second straight year, the first time that has been accomplished in program history, but were unable to secure the trophy and return to the NCAA Tournament. Fullerton did earn its third consecutive postseason berth, also a program first, as it hosted CSU Bakersfield in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Titans went 16-18 on the year and 10-6 in Big West Conference action to take third place in the standings.
In 2017-18, CSF went 20-12 and won the Big West Tournament Championship and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for just the third time in program history. Santos helped Kyle Allman, Jr elevate his play to claim multiple honors – All-Big West First Team, Big West Tournament MVP, NABC All-District 9 Second Team as well as being on the Lou Henson Player of the Year Award Watch List
During the 2016-17 season, Cal State Fullerton totaled its most wins since 2012, after the Titans finished the year with a 17-15 record. The season concluded with Fullerton qualifying for postseason play for just the seventh time in school history, as the Titans hosted Weber State in the opening round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The event also marked the first time Fullerton had ever hosted a postseason game.
A native of Walnut, Calif., Santos joined the Titans as a team manager during his senior year (2011-12), and following his graduation, was hired as the program’s director of basketball operations, serving in that role from 2013-17. Santos’ role includes recruiting, player development, on-court coaching, scouting reports, film breakdown and scheduling.
Prior to his promotions, Santos’ main responsibilities included coordinating team travel, budget operations, game operations, overseeing student-athlete academic progress, supervision of the team’s managers, handling social media efforts, as well as serving as the staff's liaison for development, ticketing, marketing and media relations.
During Santos’ time as director of basketball operations, 18 Titan players received their degrees, including Kennedy Esume, a Big West Conference All-Academic selection and 2015 Big West Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Santos graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in May 2012, and in the spring of 2014, received his master’s in sports performance/sports psychology.
He served as an assistant coach at Don Bosco Tech High School during the 2009-2011 seasons. During the 2009-10 campaign, Santos was part of a team that finished 4-21, and in the following year (2010-11), helped turned the program around with a record of 20-9, eventually losing in the quarterfinals to Muir High School.
