Titans Cruise Past Cal Poly, 83-62

FULLERTON, Calif.Latrell Wrightsell Jr. scored a game-high 23 points to lead Cal State Fullerton men's basketball to an 83-62 win over Cal Poly Saturday night at Titan Gym. The win is the Titans' fourth straight and improves their record to 16-12 overall and 10-6 in Big West play. 

Wrightsell Jr. shot 9-of-16 from the floor, including 5-of-7 from distance, to go with four rebounds and two assists. Max Jones had 18 points and three rebounds while Jalen Harris scored 16 and had three rebounds. Grayson Carper tallied 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench in the win. 

As a team, the Titans shot 52.8% from the floor and 52.0% from distance while holding the Mustangs to 40.4% shooting. 

Fullerton jumped out to an 8-2 advantage early on following triples from Wrightsell Jr. and Harris and a dunk from Jones. The Titans extended their lead to 14, 19-5, with a Wrightsell Jr. jumper and Jones layup. Harris hit another three near the end of the half, his third, as Fullerton took a 36-21 advantage into the locker room. Wrightsell Jr. led all scorers at the break with 11. 

The Mustangs fought back to within nine five minutes into the first half, but a Wrightsell Jr. jumper and Jones four-point play put Fullerton back up 16, 51-35. Carper hammered home a tip-in dunk off a missed free throw and Wrightsell Jr. hit another triple from the corner to give the Titans a 68-45 advantage. 

The game slowed down over the final few minutes, with Jones hitting a pair of free throws to put Fullerton up 78-57. Harris hit a jumper and a three-pointer with 21 seconds to go as the Titans came away with the 83-62 win. 

Fullerton faces a quick turnaround, taking on UC Santa Barbara on the road on Monday, February 20th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT.
