Fullerton Defeats George Washington in Home Opener

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball defeated George Washington 74-59 in its home opener Tuesday night at Titan Gym to pick up its first win of the season.

The Titans (1-2) battled back and forth with George Washington in the first half as the two teams exchanged leads. Fullerton trailed 20-22 before going on a 10-0 run to take control of the game spurred by an offensive rebound and put back dunk by Vincent Lee and capped off by a turn-around jumper by E.J. Anosike. The Titans held the lead for the remainder of the game from that point on.

Anosike led the team with a season-high 28 points on 12-for-16 shooting while adding 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Anosike was unstoppable in the second half, scoring 17 of his 28 points.

In his first start of the season Dante Maddox Jr. scored 11 points with five rebounds and three assists while going 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. The Titans were nearly perfect from the line, shooting 18-for-20 on the night (90%).

Fullerton led 34-30 at halftime but built a big lead in the second half, going on a 29-10 extended run to open the second to lead by 23 points. The Titans let their foot off the gas for a short period, allowing George Washington back in the game as the Titans lead was cut to seven.

However, the Titans quickly responded, building it lead back to 10 points before Tory San Antonio put an end to George Washington's hopes with a one-handed posterizing dunk.

The Titans look to carry their momentum from the win into Friday night's game at San Diego. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. PT.
