Titans Drop Season Opener at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif.  – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball dropped its opening game of the season on the road to Santa Clara by a final score of 84-77. 

The Titans had a strong performance offensively but were unable to get the stops they needed down the stretch. As a team they shot 52.5 percent from the field (31-59). 

Four Titans scored in double figures, led by Vincent Lee with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor while adding nine rebounds. Lee scored 10 of his 18 points in the second half against Santa Clara. 

In his first game with the Titans, E.J. Anosike recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Anosike had a great second half, scoring 12 of his 16 points on 5-for-6 shooting with six rebounds. 

Dante Maddox Jr. came off the bench to score 17 points for the Titans on 7-for-11 shooting. Maddox Jr. had 17 of the team's 22 bench points. Tray Maddox Jr. added 11 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field. 

Santa Clara was led by Josip Vrankic who had a game-high 29 points, shooting 13-for-20. Four out of the five starters scored double figures for Santa Clara. 

The Titans look to bounce back Thursday on the road against San Jose State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT.
