Northridge, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton men's basketball had its seven-game winning streak over CSUN snapped on Saturday as the Matadors won 99-92 in The Matadome. Seniors Austen Awosika, Jackson Rowe and Brandon Kamga led the team in scoring with 18 points each. Lamine Diane and Terrell Gomez of CSUN both scored 27 points.
The Titans (10-19, 5-9 Big West) led the Matadors (13-17, 8-6 Big West) 25-23 at the 7:16 mark of the first half but CSUN went on a 20-8 run to close the period and lead 43-33 at the half. The Matadors would not surrender that lead in the second frame and pushed the gap to 25 at one point.
Fullerton shot 45.3% (34-75) from the field, 20.5 (4-20) from distance and 66.7% (20-30) from the line. CSF won the rebounding battle 48-41 as well. CSUN went 34-70 (48.%) from the field, 8-18 (44.4%) from three and 23-32 (71.9%) at the charity stripe.
For the first time since Jan. 8, 2011, two Titans recorded double-doubles in the same game courtesy of Rowe (18 points, 11 rebounds) and senior forward Davon Clare (14 points, 12 rebounds).
Awosika tallied four rebounds and six assists with his 18 points. Junior forward Johnny Wang also scored in double figures with 10 points, his second straight game with 10+. Redshirt sophomore forward Daniel Venzant tallied 11 points, five rebounds and two assists off the bench.
