FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton men's basketball lost in Titan Gym on Thursday night to UC Santa Barbara by a score of 75-66. Gauchos guard Max Heidegger scored a game-high 27 points while the Titans were led by senior guard Brandon Kamga with 20.
After starting the game down 11-0, Fullerton (10-17, 5-7 Big West) clawed back and led 64-63 over UC Santa Barbara (17-9, 6-5 Big West) with 3:49 left in the game. From that point, the Gauchos ended the game on a 12-2 run to secure the win.
Most of the statistics were very close except at the free-throw line where the Gauchos went 17-23 (73.9%) while Fullerton went just 5-8 (62.5%). The Titans shot 45.9% (28-61) from the field and 5-14 (35.7%) beyond the arc. UCSB was 26-57 (45.6%) from the floor and 6-16 (37.5%) from distance.
Along with his 27 points, Heidegger also led his team in rebounds (seven) and assists (five). He was +11 in 36 minutes of action.
For the Titans, Kamga posted five rebounds and two assists with his 20 points (9-18 FGA). Senior forward Jackson Rowe scored all of his 18 points (7-14 FGA) in the second half. He also contributed seven rebounds and one assist in 30 minutes. Sophomore guard Wayne Arnold chipped in 11 pints and four rebounds off the bench. Senior guard Austen Awosika was held to four points (2-4 FGA), two rebounds, six assists and two steals in 29 minutes.
Next up, CSF heads to Hawai'i on Thursday and then plays at CSUN on Saturday.
