UC Davis Sinks MBB From Three-Point Line

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fell to the Aggies of UC Davis on Saturday night by a score of 87-81. After allowing just 48 points on Wednesday to UC Riverside, the Aggies shot 52.5% from the field and made 11 three-point field goals on 16 attempts. The Titans made more free throws (26) than UC Davis attempted (22) but all of the threes became a math problem the Titans did not have the answer for.

Fullerton (9-16, 4-6 Big West) led 7-3 at the 16:33 mark and then trailed 10-7 at the 15:17 mark. UC Davis (10-15, 4-5 Big West) would not relinquish that lead the rest of the game. The Aggies pushed the lead to as much as 15 at the 4:19 mark of the first half but it was close throughout the second. But whenever the Titans were close, UCD made a timely basket to keep the lead. With 1:11 left, CSF trailed 81-78 as Davis had the possession out of the timeout. Ezra Manjon hit a floater with 45 seconds left and the Aggies closed the final 71 seconds on a 6-3 run to secure the win. Caleb Fuller of UC Davis scored a game-high 23 points on 9-12 shooting off the bench.

Senior forward Jackson Rowe scored a team-high 21 points (6-10 FGA, 8-10 FTA) while also adding nine rebounds, one assist and one block in 30 minutes. Senior guard Brandon Kamga played all 40 minutes and posted a line of 20 points and five rebounds but he struggled shooting, going just 5-17 from the floor and 2-8 from distance. Redshirt freshman forward Vincent Lee posted a career-high 18 points on 6-9 shooting to go with seven rebounds and a steal. The fourth double-figure scorer for the Titans was senior guard Austen Awosika with 10 points (3-5 FGA, 4-7 FTA) plus four rebounds and three assists.

Next up, CSF hosts Cal Poly on Saturday at 6 p.m. PT. The following Thursday we welcome UC Santa Barbara to Titan Gym at 7 p.m. PT for the penultimate home game of the season. Both of those games will be streamed live on ESPN3.
