MBB Wins 78-74 at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton men's basketball picked up its second straight Big West road win, defeating UC Davis by a score of 78-74 on Wednesday night. Senior guard Brandon Kamga led the team with 21 points while sophomore guard Wayne Arnold chipped in 14 off the bench. Fullerton's 78 points was the most it has scored against a DI opponent this season.

The Titans (7-13, 2-3 BWC) led for 33 minutes on Wednesday and although the final difference was just four points, Fullerton led by 10 with a minute left and was in control. UC Davis (9-12, 2-2 BWC) faced a 10-point deficit at the 12:11 mark of the second half, 49-39, but the game was tied at 52 by the 6:02 mark. Arnold hit a three to retake the lead and the Titans did not relinquish that lead. Kamga scored nine of his 21 points in the second half and all nine of those points came at the free-throw line (10 attempts) to ice the game down the stretch.

Fullerton shot 47.3% (26-55) from the field, 33.3% (7-21) from beyond the arc and 73.1% (19-26) at the line. Davis went 30-65 (46.2%) from the floor, 9-26 (34.6%) from distance and just 5-8 (62.5%) at the charity stripe. The Titans assisted on 14 of their 26 made baskets, the third-highest total this season against DI opponents.

Kamga tallied four rebounds and three assists to go with his 21 points. He battled foul trouble in the second half but came up big down the stretch at the free-throw line. Senior guard Austen Awosika posted a line of 11 points, five rebounds, a game-high six assists and two steals in 36 minutes. He also drew a game-high seven fouls.

Arnold chipped in 14 points with four three-point field goals and four rebounds off the bench. Senior forward Davon Clare had another strong performance as he tallied 12 points, a team-high eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Redshirt freshman forward Vincent Lee was a perfect 5-5 from the field with 11 points and four rebounds.

Next up, Fullerton heads home to Titan Gym to host CSUN at 7:30 p.m. PT in a doubleheader with women's basketball.
