Santa Clara, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fell in the finale of the Cable Car Classic to the host Santa Clara Broncos by a score of 70-55. The Broncos led all 40 minutes and were paced Josip Vrankic with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Brandon Kamga scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Titans.
Santa Clara (8-1 overall) opened up the game on a 16-0 run and they would not look back. The Titans (3-5 overall) went the first 10 mintues of the game without a field goal and shot just 35% (19-55) for the game from the field. Fullerton went just 4-16 from distance but did well at the free-throw line going 13-16 (81%). THe Titans trailed 42-19 at the half but responded well, cutting the lead to 12 at the 10:09 mark in the second half. The squad ened up out-scoring the Broncos by eight in the second frame.
Kamga tallied 18 points (6-13 FGA, 3-6 3FGA) with four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Senior guard Austen Awosika scored 10+ points for the sixth straight game and seventh overall this season as he tallied 12 total to go with one rebound and two assists. Senior forward Davon Clare was one rebound away from a double-double as he tallied 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a block.
Next up, the Titans head back to Northern California to play at Pacific on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PT.
