Men’s Basketball Wins Home Opener over Bethesda

FULLERTON, Calif. – Four Titans scored in double figures as Cal State Fullerton men's basketball won its home-opening game on Saturday afternoon over Bethesda, 77-35. CSF moved the ball well as it tallied 19 assists on 31 field goals made.

Senior Arkim Robertson, sophomore Dwight Ramos and junior Khalil Ahmad each scored 12 points to lead the team while sophomore Austen Awosika scored 10. Robertson's 12 points was a career high.

For the game, Cal State Fullerton shot 31-77 (40.3%) from the field and 9-30 (30.0%) from beyond the arc. The Titans still struggled from the stripe, connecting on six of their 13 attempts. Bethesda shot just 10-53 (18.9%) on the game and connected on one of 25 shots from three.

At the 7:55 mark in the first half, the Titans led 14-9. Head coach Dedrique Taylor put the starting five back in the game and they went on a 14-0 run to push the lead to 28-9 at the 4:15 mark and effectively put the game away. The last nine points of the run came off three-straight three pointers by Ahmad.

Cal State Fullerton won the rebounding battle 58-34 and scored 19 second-chance points. All of the 14 Titans that played grabbed at least one rebound, led by sophomore guard Austen Awosika who tied a career high with nine rebounds to go along with his 10 points and two assists.

Junior guard Kyle Allman, Jr. dished out six assists, which was tops on the team and tied a career high. He also scored nine points and did not commit a turnover in 21 minutes of action.

Cal State Fullerton moved 2-0 all-time against Bethesda.

The Titans return to action on Thursday, the first day of the Wooden Legacy being held at Titan Gym.
