Richard Peters | Sr. | C | 6-11 | Toronto, Ontario | University of Albany
Peters, born on the island of Trinidad, played two years at Albany after playing one season at Tallahassee Community College. In two seasons with the Great Danes, Peters played in 62 games making 24 starts. As a junior last season, he set a career high scoring nine points against Niagara while grabbing a career-best 10 rebounds vs. Oneonta.
"We are very excited to add Richard to our program," head coach Dedrique Taylor said. "He provides us with some great experience both on and off the floor. He's competed for and won a gold medal in the world championships against some of the best players in his age group. He has a ginormous personality; he's articulate and brings a big presence with his physical size. I'm anxious to get his skill and basketball IQ on the floor with our group."
A four-year power forward and center at Brewster Academy and Westwind Prep Academy in Phoenix, Ariz., Peters averaged 10.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game as a senior for the Warriors.
He represented Canada in the 2009 Michael Jordan Classic International Game, and competed for the Under-17 Canada team that took third at the FIBA World Championships.
A 2011 McDonald's All-America Nominee out of the state of Arizona, Peters was ranked No. 44 by Next Up as a junior college prospect going into his first year at Tallahassee Community College. He originally committed to Washington State out of prep school.
