Hawai'i Erupts in Second Half to Eliminate Titans

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's upset bid at the Big West Conference Tournament fell short as the eighth-seeded Titans couldn't find an answer in the second half for No. 1 seed Hawai'i in a 75-44 quarterfinal loss at Honda Center.

The co-Big West Conference regular season champs trailed the Titans 30-29 with 17:33 to play before the 'Bows (25-5, 13-3 BWC) unleashed a 23-3 run over a six-minute span.

During the game-deciding stretch, the Titans (10-20, 3-13 BWC) committed seven turnovers and shot 0-for-3 from the floor, thus ending their 2015-16 campaign.

Fullerton was outscored 48-18 in the final 20 minutes, setting season lows in points scored and field goal percentage for the game.

The Titans scored just 18 points in the second half on 6-of-25 shooting committing 12 turnovers for the game (nine in the second half).

Jamar Akoh scored a team-high 12 points, while junior forward Tim Myles produced his first double-double as a Titan scoring a career-high 10 points while adding a career-best 12 rebounds.

Hawai'i shot 46.9 percent from the floor for the game, including a .528 clip (19-of-36) in the second half as Aaron Valdes led the 'Bows with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Roderick Bobbitt added 14 points while Stefan Jankovic poured in 12. Mike Thomas recorded a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Akoh buried a three-pointer from the wing at the halftime buzzer – just the third made trey of his career – as Cal State Fullerton trailed 27-26 at the break.

Akoh led Fullerton with nine first-half points while Myles was active on the boards with five in the first 20 minutes.

Hawai'i led by as many as eight points, 25-17, following a Jankovic lay-up with 3:40 to play, but the Titans ended the half on 9-2 run as Akoh scored seven of CSF's nine points during the stretch. UH committed three turnovers and shot 0-for-2 from the floor as CSF closed within one.

Fullerton committed only three turnovers in the first half while the 'Bows totaled seven.
