The 2014 Wooden Legacy – a Thanksgiving weekend men's college basketball tournament – has confirmed its field for the annual event to be held at two southern California sites – Cal State Fullerton and Honda Center.
Princeton, San Jose State, Washington and Western Michigan will be participating in the Wooden Legacy for the first time. Western Michigan captured the Mid-American Conference postseason tournament title and Xavier earned a berth to the 2014 NCAA Championship. Princeton and UTEP competed in the College Basketball Invitational postseason event, while San Diego reached the quarterfinals of the College Insider Tournament.
The opening two days of competition will be staged at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. Four games, including the title game, will be played on Sunday, Nov. 30, at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The Wooden Legacy was formed in 2013 when two nationally-recognized in-season collegiate basketball events, the John R. Wooden Classic and the Anaheim Classic, joined forces. San Diego State defeated Marquette 67-59 in the 2013 Wooden Legacy Championship Game.
Current UTEP coach Tim Floyd led USC to the inaugural Anaheim Classic title in 2007. In year's following, Wake Forest (2008), West Virginia (2009), UNLV (2010), Saint Louis (2011) and Cal (2012) captured Anaheim Classic crowns.
The John R. Wooden Classic was established in 1994 as an annual tribute to the legendary coach and the excellence he personified. The first 17 John R. Wooden Classics featured a doubleheader in which both Washington (2005 and 2009) and Long Beach State (2010) competed.
