Seeley's Career Night Powers Titans' Offensive Outburst

RENO, NV – D.J. Seeley matched his career high with 32 points and a hot-shooting Cal State Fullerton team erupted for a 112-69 victory over Southern Utah Saturday on the second night of the World Vision Classic at the Lawlor Events Center at the University of Nevada.

The point total matched the sixth best in school history for the Titans (1-2), who made Interim Head Coach Andy Newman a winner in his official debut.

The Titans shot 73 percent (19-of-26)  from the floor in the first half including 5 of 7 3-point tries to build a 57-33 halftime lead and they didn't cool off much in the second half (18 of 31 .581) to finish at 64.9 percent overall. For the game they made 12 of 17 3-point tries (.706).

Southern Utah (0-3) committed 31 turnovers with the Titans credited with 20 steals including 7 by Seeley, who also had 7 assists and 4 rebounds.

Kwame Vaughn had 19 points, Alex Harris had 15 and Sammy Yeager had 14 for Fullerton, 1-1 in the tournament.  Southern Utah (0-3) was led by Damon Heuir with 14 points. Jackson Stevenett, who came in averaging 22 points, ended up with 13.

"It was a total team effort," said Newman, who played his freshman season at Southern Utah. "It was great to see us playing together. When you have 30 assists you are sharing the ball. Our shooting was outstanding, especially in the first half."

The Titans never trailed after the first minute, jumping out to an early 20-7 lead and gradually stretching it to as many as the 24-point margin at the half. Seeley had 21 first-half points and Southern Utah committed 15 turnovers in the first half and the Titans were credited with 10 steals.

All 12 players on the trip got into the game and 11 scored.

Fullerton wraps up its road trip with a 1 p.m. game Sunday against Green Bay. The Phoenix (2-1) lost a heartbreaker to host Nevada earlier Saturday, 71-69, on a 3-point basket by Friday's hero Deonte Burton with 1.4 seconds to play. Nevada (2-1) is 2-0 in the tourney and plays Southern Utah Sunday at about 3:30 p.m.
