BUHACH COLONY HS: Was a four-year varsity letterman for Head Coach Wayne Fitzgerald's Thunder • A three-time All-Central California first teamer (2007, 2008 and 2009) and an All-Valley Oak second teamer (for then-Head Coach Greg Wakefield) in 2006 as a freshman • Helped lead BCHS to 4 consecutive league championships • Was a three-time Merced Sun Star and Modesto Bee first team all-area pitcher • Was named the Central California League Pitcher of the Year in 2007, 2008 and 2009 after going 7-0 with 2 saves and an 0.46 ERA while striking out 109 batters in 75 innings; also batted .462 with 4 home runs at the plate • Was No. 56 on Baseball America's 2008 Top 100 High School Prospect list, and was a second-team Baseball America High School All-American after going 12-1 with an .075 ERA his junior year (2008); struck out 139 and walked just 21 in 93.2 innings • Was drafted in the 20th round by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft • Also played football for 1 season at the varsity level.
