FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball suffered its first series sweep of the season after dropping game three to UC San Diego, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field.
The Titans are now 28-19 on the year and 17-7 in Big West play. Fullerton remains one game ahead of UC Santa Barbara in the conference standings.
Evan Yates gave the Titans his fourth quality start of the season, giving up just three earned runs in seven innings pitched while walking one and striking out five batters. Yates gave up all three runs in the top of the first inning on two bloop singles but locked in to shut down the Tritons over the next six innings.
Fullerton got on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Maddox Latta home run to avoid a shutout.
The Titans look to respond next weekend as they host rivals Long Beach State in a three-game Big West series beginning Friday night at Goodwin Field.
