Fullerton Scores Three Runs in 11th Inning to Defeat No. 17 Arizona State

PHOENIX – Cal State Fullerton scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning to secure an 11-8 win over No. 17 Arizona State Wednesday afternoon at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Jack Haley led-off the 11th with a single before a sacrifice bunt pushed him into scoring position. With one, Caden Connor singled to right field to give the Titans a 9-8 advantage.

One batter later, Nate Nankil doubled to left field to bring home Connor and extend the Titans lead to 10-8.

Nankil later advanced to third on a wild pitch before Colby Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to drive him home. Nankil had a career-high five hits in seven at-bats with two runs and an RBI.

Ryan Faulks came on in relief to close out the game and walked one batter before closing out the game to earn his first save of the year.

Jojo Ingrassia earned the win to improve to 4-1 on the year after pitching three shutout innings while giving up just three hits. Ingrassia pitched the eighth, ninth and 10th innings.

After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Titans responded with four runs in the top half of the third to take the lead.

With Nankil at first base, Wallace hit his first career home run to put the Titans up 2-1. Following a Zach Lew double, Brendan Bobo singled to right field to bring him home and make it a 3-1 Titans lead.

Bobo then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Moises Guzman drew a walk, the Titans put on a double steal that allowed Bobo to steal home with ease and gave Fullerton a 4-1 lead.

Arizona State came back to score two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Titans lead to 4-3.

The Titans extended their lead to 5-3 in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Maddox Latta, his second of the season.

Fullerton had a tailor-made double play to end the fourth inning but a fielding error led to the Sun Devils having the bases loaded. The next batter hit a grand slam to put Arizona State up 7-5.

As they have all year, the Titans quickly responded with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game. Bobo and Guzman strung together back-to-back one out hits before Cole Urman singled to left center field to bring them both home and tie the game.

The Sun Devils scored one run in the bottom half of the sixth inning to retake the lead, 8-7.

The Titans once again responded with a run in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Connor to tie the game at 8-8. Connor now has two home runs on the year.

It is the first time since game three on opening weekend against Stanford the Titans have hit three home runs in a game.

Fullerton returns to Big West play this weekend as the team heads to Northridge for a three-game series against CSUN beginning Friday afternoon.
