FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball secured the series sweep over CSU Bakersfield with a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field.

With the win the Titans improve to 23-11 on the year and 15-3 in Big West play to remain in first place in the conference. Fullerton's 23 wins surpasses its win a total from a year ago.

The Titans fell behind early, giving up two runs in the top of the first inning. After giving up the two runs, Evan Yates locked in to keep the Roadrunners off the board for the next three innings. Yates gave up the two runs on seven hits in four innings of work.

Fullerton was held without a hit through the first three innings before Carter White led-off the fourth with a single up the middle. With the bases loaded, Maddox Latta came through for the Titans with a base hit to left field to score White.

The Titans trailed 2-1 entering the fifth inning before scoring four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Fullerton has scored exactly four runs in an inning 15 times this season.

Caden Connor started the scoring with two outs in the fifth with an RBI single to bring home Jack Haley from second base.

Following a pitching change, Nate Nankil doubled to center field on a ball that got lost in the sun to score one run and put the Titans up 3-2.

With runners on second and third, Latta hit a two-run single to right field to put the Titans up 5-2. Latta went 2-for-4 on the day with three RBI.

Peyton Jones earned the win for the Titans to improve to 4-1 on the year after pitching 2.2 shutout innings while giving up just one hit, walking three batters and striking out one.

Seth Tomczak came on in relief in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs and induced a flyout to get the Titans out of a jam. Tomczak pitched 2.1 shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three to earn his second save of the season.

The Titans hit the road this week for a two-game midweek series at Arizona State beginning Tuesday night.
