FULLERTON, Calif. – On the night of legendary head coach George Horton's jersey retirement ceremony at Goodwin Field, the Titans defeated CSU Bakersfield by a final score of 8-6.

With the win the Titans improve to 21-11 on the year and 13-3 in Big West play to remain in first place in the conference. Fullerton also remains undefeated on Friday night's to improve to 8-0.

Cal State Fullerton fell behind in the top of the second inning as Bakersfield put up three early runs on two hits in the inning.

The Titans immediately responded in the bottom of the second with one run on a sacrifice fly by Zach Lew to drive home Moises Guzman and cut the Roadrunners lead to 3-1.

Fullerton took the lead in the fourth inning on home runs by Lew and Brendan Bobo. With one out, Lew hit a solo shot to left field for his third home run of the season.

Following a single by Cole Urman, Bobo launched a two-run home run to right field to put the Titans up 4-3. Bobo has a team-high six home runs this season.

CSU Bakersfield came back to retake the lead in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run double by Konnor Palmeira to put the Roadrunners up 5-4.

The Titans quickly responded once again to retake the lead, scoring three runs in the home half of the fifth to go up 7-5. With runners on second and third and one out, Moises Guzman singled to left center field to score Caden Connor and tie the game at 5-5.

With Nate Nankil standing at third base, Lew hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give the Titans a 6-5 lead. Carter White then drew a bases loaded walk with two outs to bring home Guzman and extend the Titans lead to 7-5.

Nankil and Lew teamed up again in the eighth inning to give the Titans a much needed insurance run. After a one-out double by Nankil, Lew brought him home to score on a double to left field.

Lew had a great game at the plate for the Titans, going 3-for-3 with a walk, one run and four RBI to drive in half of the Titans' runs.

Fullerton continued what it has been doing all season on offense, bouncing back immediately after giving up a run. The Titans did so twice tonight for a total of four runs, on the year they have answered 34 times for a total 75 runs.

After a slow start to the game Tyler Stultz got back on track to earn the win and improve to 5-2 on the year. Stultz gave up five earned runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched while walking three and striking out eight batters.

Trevor Hinkel came on in relief for the final two innings and earned his second save of the year after allowing one earned run on two hits.

Fullerton looks to secure the series victory in game two against CSU Bakersfield Saturday night at Goodwin Field. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m. PT.
